Description

I'm going to return to my current comic after this piece. I just needed to clear my head and work on something different for a little while. It's usually a good idea to take a break from one subject and try another, then return with a fresh outlook. There are other characters I plan to draw and create, but these three have been enough for now.

Deskara is from the plane of Tarkir (not my own creation, this one belongs to WotC).

Schemers abound in the court of Dragonlord Silumgar - everyone vying for power and prestige within the clan. Born into the luxury and opulence of the higher echelons, Deskara found himself in a rut of mediocrity. His achievements were mostly overlooked by those of higher authority and he had to constantly outwit his rivals as they sought to rise into his own position. Deskara despised the zombie servants which, unfortunately, built the foundation of Silumgar's power. Reluctant to use such crude methods, he was quickly becoming an overlooked sorcerer. In an attempt to change this, he joined in a plot with fellow courtiers to manipulate Silumgar's commands for their own benefit. However, the dragonlord discovered the scheme, killed the members, and then raised them as undead slaves.

Deskara managed to survive because he was the one that tipped off the dragon. His betrayal was another plot to raise his status and prestige. Such was not the case. His reward for "loyalty" was a dilapidated palace without significance. Silumgar's viziers claimed it was an estate of honor. In truth, it was a hollow shade of glory, better suited for keeping the prince out of the court. Seething with rage at the slight, Deskara swore a grim oath that he would find a greater power to destroy the arrogant dragonlord. He honed his magical skills tirelessly, plotting how to take control of the clan. To avert suspicion, Deskara hosted feasts and parties for for clan members, filling his harems with the finest slaves to share, and always offering his finest gifts to the dragons.

Then, one fateful day, agents barged into Silumgar's court with a prisoner - a man called Cyrus Marr. The stranger babbled nonsense about how dragons were supposed to be extinct on Tarkir, that the clans were always ruled by "khans", and that he himself was a dragonslayer from another world entirely. Many dismissed his foolishness, calling to kill him as a madman. But Cyrus had slain Silumgar's hated rival, Kolaghan. Such a feat had not even been thought possible. Silumgar was utterly delighted and offered to make Cyrus his greatest general, showered with riches and glory and power second only to himself. The young man spurned the dark dragon and was thrown into the dungeons to await his execution. Deskara found the stranger's story fascinating and saw this as the perfect opportunity. He broke Cyrus out of prison and spirited him away to his own palace. The dragonslayer was confused at the rescue, but recognized his debt of gratitude - even sensing the spark within the naga prince. Deskara offered sanctuary and assistance if Cyrus would aid him in return.

Deskara's treachery was soon discovered by Silumgar, and he gathered a host of his brood to exact vengeance. Before they could reach the old palace, Cyrus and Deskara ambushed them in the jungle. Cyrus' power and skill in defeating dragons were extraordinary, but it was Deskara who confronted the dragonlord. Despite his best effort, however, the naga's power could not equal Silumgar and he was defeated. As Silumgar lunged for the kill and Cyrus rushed to aid his unlikely ally, Deskara's planeswalker spark ignited.

Deskara's mana colors are green and black.
